After MLB imposed a two-game suspension on Chase Utley for his slide into New York Mets shortstop Rubén Tejada, the league will now try to have a decision on his appeal before tonight’s game.

According to the New York Daily News, a baseball source said that the league will extradite the appeals process ahead of Monday’s all-important Game 3 at Citi Field.

MLB Communications announced Sunday that Utley would be suspended for Games 3 and 4 of the NLDS after his slide into Tejada left the infielder with a broken right leg.

If you ask the Mets, the team will tell you the slide was dirty. Ask the Dodgers and you’ll hear that it was a hard-nose baseball play.

Utley himself maintains that the slide was clean and he was just trying to break up a double play.

The Los Angeles Times noted that his agent Joel Wolfe called the suspension "outrageous and completely unacceptable” and Utley’s team said they stand behind his decision to appeal.

After the slide shown round the world the Dodgers rallied and defeated the Mets 5-2 to even the series.
