The Community College of Philadelphia was put on lockdown Tuesday morning after it was reported that a man with a gun was inside one of the campus buildings.
WPVI noted that law enforcement officials from several agencies responded to the area just after 10 a.m. and began searching each of the school’s buildings. Students inside those buildings were ordered to shelter in place.
In addition to the entire campus on lockdown, a high school across the street from the college was also placed on lockdown.
NBC 10 Philadelphia reported that after about two hours police said they had a 17-year-old suspect in custody.
This incident comes one day after the FBI and ATF warned that universities in and around the Philadelphia area had received a threat and released the following statement:
“Out of an abundance of caution, the FBI Philadelphia Field Office notified local colleges and universities of a social media posting which threatened violence at a Philadelphia-area college or university for Monday, Oct. 5.”
There have been no reports of injuries at this time.
