John McClane not only can’t die, but he can also turn back the clock. 20th Century Fox and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura are reportedly planning on a Die Hard prequel that would still somehow involve Bruce Willis.
This news was first reported by Deadline. According to the site, the project is in the very early stages and would have Live Free Or Die Hard director Len Wiseman returning at the helm. The project is currently titled Die Hard Year One with plans to explore McClane’s early career as a police officer. Willis, who first played the role back in 1988, will be in the film.
The new film will be set in 1979, notes The Hollywood Reporter. The studio is still looking for a writer.
Die Hard Year One would be the sixth Die Hard movie and the first since 2013’s A Good Day To Die Hard, which only made $67.3 million in the U.S. Still, that movie did make $237.3 million in foreign territories, so it’s clear that audiences around the world still love hearing Willis yell, “Yippie ki yay, motherf***er.”
