Running back Dion Lewis signed a contract extension with the New England Patriots on Thursday.
According to NFL.com, the extension is for two years and is potentially worth $5 million. Lewis will have a base salary of $2.6 million and could earn $2 million more in incentives. He also got a $600,000 signing bonus. Lewis is now signed through the 2017 season.
"It was a good feeling," Lewis said. "Still have a lot of work to do. They gave me a chance and that's all I can ask for. They gave me a chance, so it's for me to repay them as well. They showed a commitment to me and I just have to honor it and keep on going out there and making them right."
Lewis signed a one-year, “future” contract with the Patriots in February. He was out of football last year and was out for the 2013 season due to a broken leg. This season Lewis has 30 carries, 15 receptions and two touchdowns, according to ESPN, which first reported the news. Lewis has rushed for 146 yards and has 179 receiving yards.
The Patriots are currently 3-0.
