Atlanta, a music-themed comedy starring Donald Glover, has finally received a series order from FX. The news comes over two years after news of the project first surfaced.

The series, which is named for the city Glover grew up in, centers on two cousins who try to make it in the Atlanta rap scene. The rest of the cast includes Brian Tyree Henry (The Knick, The Good Wife); Lakeith Lee Stanfield (Straight Outta Compton, Dope, Selma); and Zazie Beetz.

Atlanta draws on Donald’s considerable talents as a musician, actor and writer to give us something unique,” Nick Grad, co-president of original programming at FX, said in a statement. “The story is made all the more powerful by the great cast and the contributions of Donald’s fellow Executive Producer Paul Simms and director Hiro Murai. We can’t wait to for the debut of Atlanta next year.”

News of the project first surfaced back in August 2013, just as Glover was preparing to leave Community. Glover will be executive producer on the show with Paul Simms (Girls, Flight of the Conchords) and MGMT Management’s Dianne McGunigle.

In addition to playing Troy on Community, Glover is also known as a rapper under the name Childish Gambino. He can also be seen in The Martian and won three WGA Awards as a writer on Tina Fey’s 30 Rock.

Atlanta’s first season will run 10 episodes and will debut in 2016.
