Despite a drubbing from critics, ABC’s multi-cam sitcom Dr. Ken has received a full back nine episode order. The show stars Ken Jeong and is the first new sitcom of the fall 2015 season to get a full season.
Dr. Ken airs on ABC on Fridays following Tim Allen’s Last Man Standing at 8:30 p.m. According to Variety, the show has averaged 6.6 million viewers so far, along with a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic.
The show stars Jeong as a doctor, which is supposed to be particularly funny because Jeong was a real doctor before the Hangover movies made him a star. The former Community actor’s family is played by Suzy Nakamura, Albert Tsai and Krista Marie Yu. He created the show with Jared Stern and John Fox.
Only a few other shows have received full season pick-ups. Fox picked up Rosewood, while NBC has already picked up Blindspot. ABC also picked up Quantico and gave Fresh off the Boat a full second season.
Fox ordered additional scripts for its new sitcoms, Grandfathered with John Stamos and The Grinder with Rob Lowe.
