Dr. Phil McGraw, also known as Dr. Phil, has dominated the talkshow landscape for years, but even with daytime struggling, CBS has still locked up up one of daytime's biggest stars.
Variety reported that CBS Television Distribution has extended Dr. Phil’s contract three more years until 2020. The show is currently in its 14th season and is the highest rated daytime show with an average of 4.4 million viewers this season.
“Extending this dynamic partnership with CBS affords us a chance to continue our important work with individuals and families across America and around the world. Personally, I am so proud to continue with the best team in television,” McGraw said. in a statement. “Most of my television family, from Carla Pennington the executive producer to the same seven cameramen I had when we started over 13 years ago, are still here making a difference every day.”
“Dr. Phil is the leading voice in daytime television and he’s made his show an important platform to discuss issues our viewers are struggling with every day,” Armando Nuñez, president and CEO of CBS Global Distribution Group, added, notes Deadline. “He truly is one of a kind.”
McGraw is not limited to Dr. Phil on CBS, he is also an executive producer of The Doctors. If you are a fan of Dr. Phil, then you can continue to enjoy his show for quite some time.
