Drake might be one of the most famous rappers of recent years, but he started off on a Canadian soap opera called Degrassi: The Next Generation, which many fans remember him from.

The “Hotline Bling” rapper, who reunited with some of his former co-stars in August, appeared on the show from 2001-2009 as Jimmy Brooks. He’s now saying in a new interview that he was actually fired from the show.

It wasn’t over any big scandal, though. He told W Magazine his aspiring rap career began to affect his work on the show.

After filming Degrassi during the day, he would spent nights in the studio recording. "I'd sleep in my dressing room and then be in front of the cameras again by 9 a.m.," he said. “Eventually, they realized I was juggling two professions and told me I had to choose. I chose this life."

Drake definitely has his hands full with his highly successful music career, releasing two mixtapes in the past year alone, but he said he is eager to act again.

“No one ever asks me to do movies," he said. "Although music is my focal point now, I'd love to do a film. That was the life that I lived before, and it would be interesting to live it again."

His fourth album, Views from the 6, will come out next year.
