Focus Features has released a second trailer for Tom Hooper’s new film The Danish Girl, which stars Eddie Redmayne as Danish painter Einar Wegener and Alicia Vikander as his wife, Gerda.
When Einar begins living his life as a woman named Lili Elbe, it tests his relationship with Gerda, but she decides to stand by his side. He even decides to become the first person to have sex-reassignment surgery and she continues to support him. But there are other tests on their relationship as well.
The new trailer shows Redmayne, who is coming off of his Oscar-winning transformation into Stephen Hawking in The Theory Of Everything, struggling with the body he has now and deciding to have the surgery.
The Danish Girl is based on David Ebershoff’s novel and is directed by Hooper. It’s the director’s first film since Les Miserables and he’s hoping to make it his third consecutive film to be nominated for the Best Picture Oscar. He started his streak with 2010’s The King’s Speech, which earned Best Picture and Best Director. Les Miserables was also nominated for Best Picture.
The movie opens on Nov. 27.
