FX is reportedly developing a television adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan’s acclaimed comic series Y: The Last Man.
The news was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, which confirmed that the series would be ongoing, not just a mini-series. The network and Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson of Color Force are currently looking for a writer to work with Vaughan and a director for the pilot.
Entertainment Weekly also confirmed that the project is in the works, although the network hasn’t commented.
Vaughan’s series, which was drawn by Pia Guerra, included 60 issues from 2002 to 2008. The series centers on escape artist Yorick Brown, the last person with a Y chromosome, and his monkey Ampersand. He goes on a quest to find out what happened to all the other men on the world.
There have been several attempts in the past to turn Y: The Last Man into a movie, but perhaps TV would be a better fit. Zachary Levi has said in the past that he’d love to play Yorick, but he’s currently on NBC’s Heroes Reborn.
DC’s Vertigo imprint has provided ideas for several TV shows recently. Lucifer will air on Fox next year. The CW also has iZombie and AMC is developing Preacher.
