There's been a lot of speculation recently that HBO is working on a Game of Thrones movie, but now the author himself has confirmed that it's not happening.

Earlier this week, a report from The Daily Star claimed that a Game of Thrones movie would definitely happen. That set off a whole bunch of speculation amongst fans about what it could be, but author George R.R. Martin took to his Live Journal page to debunk that report.

Martin said that while a Game of Thrones movie has been discussed, especially a movie to end the series, that doesn't mean it's actually going to happen.

"There is great enthusiasm for the notion, sure, but not necessarily from HBO," he said. "They are in the TV business, not the feature film business."

The author also noted that so many other HBO shows had movie versions rumored, likeThe Sopranos, Rome and Deadwood, yet none of those happened either.

So it sounds like Martin likes the idea of doing a film just because it would be cool to see the story unfold with a massive budget, but at the end of the day, it's probably not something that would ever get made. Those of you hoping to see Robert's Rebellion unfold on the big screen, sorry; you'll have to keep using your imagination.

Game of Thrones returns for its sixth season in 2016.
