One hit HBO series is not enough for Girls creator/writer/star Lena Dunham. She and her co-showrunner Jenni Konner are developing a series on Betty Halbreich, the famed Bergdorf Goodman personal shopper.
HBO recently optioned All Dressed Up And Everywhere To Go, Halbreich’s upcoming memoir, notes Deadline. Halbreich, 85, still runs her personal shopping service and is a Manhattan institution, having worked with stars like Meryl Streep, Glenn Close, Katie Couric and Sarah Jessica Parker. She also played a key role in creating the look of Sex and the City and Woody Allen’s early New York films.
Halbreich, as The Atlantic notes, is a New York figure who is perfect for a TV series. A New York Magazine profile called her "a brassy Chicago native with a manner that’s part Angela Lansbury and part Lucille Ball."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dunham and Konner will write the project together.
Girls, which was picked up for season three last week, has been a critical darling, winning two Golden Globes earlier this month for best comedy series and best comedy actress (Dunham). It is currently in its second season.
