After making appearances on Jimmy Fallon and Ellen DeGeneres’ talk shows, 2016 Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton made her first appearance this year on Saturday Night Live.
Throughout the skit, McKinnon pokes fun at the candidate, like when asked what she does for a living and McKinnon answered with, “First, I am a grandmother. Second, I am a human, entrusted with this one green earth.” “Oh, you’re a politician,” Clinton replied.
The show also made sure to bring up GOP candidate Donald Trump, when bartender-playing Clinton asked McKinnon, “Do you think he’ll win the primaries?” McKinnon seemed confident in her answer. “He must. I want to be the one to take him down,” she said. “I will destroy him and I will mount his hair in the Oval Office.”
Playing a bartender wasn’t Clinton’s only job of the night, as she also introduced Miley Cyrus, who was the host and musical guest.
Clinton has been working to appear as more warm and personable, as polls show her lacking those qualities are one of her largest issues. Those qualities came through, however, as Kate McKinnon said of Clinton, “she was real, and smart, and really nice and personable!”
Trump was not the only Republican candidate mocked during SNL’s season 41 premiere, as the opening skit showed a fake commercial pitching a pill curing people who think they can be president. The skit specifically mentioned candidates Rick Santorum, Mike Huckabee and Jim Gilmore.
The Democratic candidates will be seen on stage together for the first time on Oct. 13 for the first scheduled Democratic Party debate in Las Vegas on CNN.
