Executives over at The CW have discovered a sure-fire way to get both new and old fans interested in the new season of The Vampire Diaries: get Ian Somerhalder naked.

Somerhalder shared the trailer for the seventh season of the hit show on Instagram with the question, “Why is Damon naked in this new Vampire Diaries Trailer...?”

We don’t really know the answer to that question by watching the trailer, but we do know that frankly, it doesn’t matter.

Back in April, Nina Dobrev, who Somerhalder dated before he married wife Nikk Reed, confirmed she was leaving the show after playing Elena Gilbert for six seasons.

She told fans she was leaving in a heartfelt Instagram post, writing, “I always knew I wanted Elena's story to be a six season adventure, and within those six years I got the journey of a lifetime.”

Dobrev added, “I myself made some of the best friends I'll ever know and built an extended family I will love forever.”
