On Tuesday’s episode of iZombie, ‘Even Cowgirls Get the Black and Blues,’ Liv learns about love gone wrong and tries to let Major go.
Three young teenage boys are drinking beer. They duck into the bushes to hide from a car going by and find a gun. They start shooting bottles.
Peyton watches the news and finds out about a murder at a convenience store. She goes to her exercise class where Liv is waiting for her. Liv says the cake meant the world to her. Peyton apologizes and says she forgives Liv for not telling her. She says she has zombie questions.
Major wakes up next to Gilda, who goes by the name Rita when she’s working with him. He’s embarrassed. He gets dressed and she tells him to check some zombies off his list today. He leaves.
Major comes home and apologizes to Ravi for being late. He’s supposed to bring Ravi into work. Ravi named their new dog Minor. Liv rings the bell. Ravi called her for a ride. Major takes the dog out. Ravi and Liv head for work.
There are few police at Clive’s murder scene. Most of them are at the murder in the rich section of town for the convenience store clerk. Liv and Ravi examine the current corpse, Lacey, who was a waitress at a country bar. She’s been strangled and her clothes and stockings have been knocked from the closet, making Clive think that the killer must have hid in there. No one heard anything. Liv finds a pile of returned letters that Lacey sent to the local penitentiary.
Clive enters his new boss’s office. She tells him that they found the convenience store shooter, but are still looking for his gun. They can hold him, but need the gun to make it stick. Clive’s boss introduces him to an FBI agent who’s looking into the disappearance of the astronaut and the zombies that Major has killed. They’re all rich, high profile men. She’s currently looking for Terrance. Clive thinks he took off due to suspicion of his wife’s murder, but he agrees to give the agent the information he has.
Liv deep fries the waitress’s brains and eats them. Clive comes in and says the letters Lacey wrote were to an ex-boyfriend that she cheated on. He was released from jail a month ago. In her letters she asks him to let her go when he gets out. Liv starts singing softly to herself. Clive asks her to go with him to meet the ex, Matt, at the pawn shop where he works.
At the shop, Clive asks for Matt who is in the back. He is expecting them because he heard about Lacey. He says he’s only seen her once since he got out, but he didn’t talk to her. She was singing at the bar and it brought up memories for him, so he left. He says she couldn’t wait a year for him. Liv says he messed up when he beat up a man with a pool cue and landed himself in prison. Matt’s boss is his alibi. Liv grabs a guitar and asks them to ring it up.
Back at the morgue, Liv plays Ravi the song she’s writing about Matt and Lacey. She notices he’s wearing cologne. He says it’s full of hormones. He plans to try it out on his date with Stephanie.
Flash to Ravi at home with Stephanie. The door opens and Ravi thinks it’s Major, but it turns out to be Peyton. Major told her she could crash there until her new place is ready. He neglected to tell Ravi. Peyton drops off her suitcases and leaves to find dinner. Stephanie jokingly offers Ravi a high five for dating Peyton.
Clive and Liv go to the bar that Lacey worked at. They meet with the manager, Rick, in the back. He says everyone loved Lacey, but suggests maybe she owed someone money. On their way out, a bar patron stops Liv and Clive and tells them that Lacey and Rick fought the night before. She threw hot coffee in his lap and then smashed his taillight before leaving. Liv looks out the window and sees Rick’s car fleeing the scene.
Clive calls the police station to have Rick picked up at home. Liv looks in the mirror and sees a vision of Rick offering Lacey money for sex. That’s why she was so upset with him. Clive thinks the humiliation Rick felt in front of his customers might be a motive for murder.
Blaine is upset that two of his customers have disappeared. His assistant tells him that he found Gabriel, the man who cut the Utopium the night of the boat party. Gabriel now leads a bible group, talking about how he turned his life around. They go to where he’s speaking and kidnap him. They beat him, but he won’t tell them how he cut the drug. They knock him out.
Peyton tries bargaining with criminals to get information about Mr. Boss’s operation. She can’t find anyone willing to speak out against him.
Clive is interviewing Rick and his pregnant wife, Pamela. Rick says he didn’t tell them about the coffee incident because he was trying to protect Lacey’s memory. Pamela says Lacey was in love with Rick. Rick claims that Lacey hit on him and he turned her down and that’s why Lacey was angry. Liv tells him she knows he tried to trade sex for Lacey’s requested cash advance. Pamela is upset and starts hitting Rick. She claims he didn’t come home the night before until midnight. She doesn’t know where he was. Clive places Rick under arrest.
The FBI agent asks Clive what she needs to know to survive in the office and not tick people off. He says he’s the wrong person to ask. She then asks him what the best food place is within walking distance. He tells her and she asks him to go with her. He has to take a raincheck because Rick’s wife wants to give her statement.
Pamela tells Clive that normally Rick is home around 10, but last night he didn’t come home until 12:03. Clive asks if she noticed any blood on Rick’s shirt. She says yes. He asks how much there was. She said enough to notice. Clive then tells her that Lacey was strangled and there was no blood. Pamela is giving a false statement because she’s angry.
