Jason Pierre-Paul agreed to a one-year contract with the New York Giants Tuesday night.

Details of the deal were not disclosed. Sources with knowledge of the deal say that Pierre-Paul has a lot of incentives that are based on how much he can play for the remainder of the season, according to ESPN.

Pierre-Paul was designated as the Giants franchise player in March, meaning he would have to play on a one-year, $14.813 million deal or not play at all. The Giants hope that he will be back by week 10 or week 12.

"I'm very excited to be back," Pierre-Paul said in a statement. "I'm getting ready to do what I have to do. I've been training down in South Florida with my trainer. Every day, I got up at 7:30 and lifted weights. I've been doing what I have to do to stay in football shape."

Pierre-Paul was drafted by the Giants in 2010. In the last three years he has had to deal with injuries and hasn’t played at all so far this season due to injuring his hand in a fireworks accident in July.

Last year, he started all 16 games and had 77 tackles, third on the team, 16 tackles for loss, 21 quarterback hits, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and six defended passes, according to the Associated Press. He has 319 tackles, eight forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, two interceptions, each was returned for a touchdown, and 32 defended passes in 75 regular-season games.

The Giants have the right to franchise Pierre-Paul again next year or they could sign him to a long-term deal or have him become an unrestricted free-agent at the end of the season. They are currently 4-3 and are in first place in the NFC East.
