Jennifer Lawrence has left Sony’s The Rosie Project, a film that sounded like the perfect gig for her.

Lawrence had been linked to the project since July. Just a few days later, Richard Linklater was reported to be in the running to direct the film.

Now, The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that the film will have to move forward without Lawrence, even though (500) Days of Summer team Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber wrote the script with her in mind.

The Rosie Project is based on a novel by Graeme Simsion and is about a socially inept genetics professor who thinks he can find his perfect mate. But he then meets Rosie Jarman and falls in love with her, even though she doesn’t fit any of his qualifications.

While THR didn’t say exactly why Lawrence left the project, it does sound like fitting it into her busy schedule would be tough. She has several upcoming projects, including Passengers and It’s What I Do. She also has two movies hitting theaters during the holidays: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part II and David O. Russell’s Joy. THR is also reporting that she is in early talks for Darren Arronofsky’s mysterious next film.
