While Bradley Cooper recently responded to Jennifer Lawrence's op/ed about the gender pay gap in Hollywood by pledging to work alongside female costars when negotiating contracts, their former co-star Jeremy Renner came out with a different response earlier this week.

Business Insider asked Renner if like Cooper, he would also be willing to negotiate alongside his female co-stars on future projects. Renner responded, "That's not my job."

He went on to state, "I don't know contracts and money and all that sort of stuff... I do what I'm good at, that's what I focus on."

Renner starred alongside Lawrence, Cooper and Amy Adams in American Hustle and was paid more than his female counterparts, both of whom were nominated for Academy Awards for their performances.

Lawrence's essay has rallied other actresses to speak up as well, including Rooney Mara and Jessica Chastain, who they say they've been paid less than their male counterparts.

Renner's comments were met with backlash from fans on social media but its not the first time he's been accused of being sexist for his comments. Renner came under fire when promoting Avengers: Age of Ultron, in which he plays the character Hawkeye, for calling Scarlett Johansson's character Natasha aka Black Widow a "slut."

Renner later apologized, referring to it as a "tasteless joke."

Renner is perhaps best known for 2008's Hurt Locker, which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Actor.
