Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones posted an Instagram video praising Daniel Cormier after his win over Alexander Gustafsson Saturday and hinted at potential rematch.
Jones deleted the video shortly after but the news has already spread, creating an air of excitement for UFC fans. According to The Guardian, Jones said in the video “I think I miss it.”
Jones was suspended earlier this year and stripped of his title after felony charges were brought against him in relation to a traffic accident in April. Jones has since struck a plea deal and is likely to be reinstated by the UFC.
With the vacant title up for grabs, Cormier beat Anthony Johnson at UFC 187 to become the first person to hold the title since Jones first won it back in 2011.
Already anticipating a fight, Cormier stated that he will not face Jones in his home state of New York. According to MMA Fighting, Cormier said in a press conference “I just think at the end of the day, when Jones gets reinstated, New York is the only place that he'll be welcomed without just venomous anger….I think he's the greatest fighter of all time. And when he gets cleared to fight, we'll fight. But I'm not gonna fight him in New York. So you guys can write that.”
Jones is anticipated to be back sometime next year. He and Cormier faced each other back in January and UFC 182, where Jones defeated Cormier in a unanimous decision.
