NBA superstar Kevin Durant says he would like to own the Redskins after he hangs up his sneakers.
Speaking during an ESPN fantasy podcast Thursday, the Oklahoma City Thunder forward said he is interested in owning part of his hometown team, the Washington Redskins.
“My first priority would be the Washington Redskins, even if it was just a small percentage,” Durant said. “I just want to get involved. Growing up five minutes away from the stadium and always being a fan, I have a Redskins tattoo on my forearm. So I feel part of the team so much, so to be an owner and all the way entrenched with the team would be cool.”
Durant, 27, has made over $66 million since being drafted in 2007, playing for the Seattle Supersonics and the Thunder, per Spotrac. Additionally, Durant is set to become a free agent after the 2015-16 season, and can potentially sign a mega-deal north of $200 million with the NBA salary cap expected to rise from $70 million to around $90 million.
While most pundits expect that Durant will remain with the Thunder, there is speculation around the league that Durant could potentially bolt and join the Los Angles Lakers, or even go play for the Washington Wizards, in his hometown.
