The Dallas Mavericks announced today that the team has requested waivers on Samuel Dalembert.
Dalembert, a burly, 6’11 center listed at 250 lbs., had played four games in the preseason, making one start, and averaged 4.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in 12.8 minutes per game, per NBA.com. He did not play in the final three preseason games due to a left leg injury.
The 34-year-old Dalembert was deemed surplus to requirements as backup to presumed starter Zaza Pachulia, who was acquired in a offseason trade after free agent center DeAndre Jordan spurned the Mavericks in an eleventh hour decision and returning to the Los Angeles Clippers.
Dalembert had spent the 2013-14 NBA season with the Mavericks, averaging 6.6 points and 6.8 rebounds along with 56.8 FG%. For his career, He has averaged 7.7 points and 7.8 rebounds across a 13-year playing career.
With Dalembert no longer on the roster, the Mavericks are left with former Nevada standout Javale McGee and third-year player Dwight Powell to man the center position, along with Pachulia.
Also waived by the Mavericks were Brandon Ashley, Tu Holloway and Jamil Wilson, which take their team roster size to 16, meaning the team will have to cut another player to have the maximum 15-man roster.
