Miami Dolphins defensive end Cameron Wake will be out for the rest of the season due to a torn Achilles.

The injury occurred during Thursday night’s game against the New England Patriots. Wake was rushing Patriots quarterback Tom Brady in the third quarter, couldn’t put any weight on his foot and fell to the ground, according to ESPN. He was helped off the field by trainers and carted to the locker room.

"I would feel horrible, and I know his teammates would, too, if that's the case," Dolphins coach Dan Campbell said about losing Wake for the season.  "... If you lost a guy like Cam, it would hurt. Not only is he a leader, but he's a very productive player."

Wake signed with the Dolphins in 2009. His future with the team is in question. Next year, he has a non-guaranteed base salary of $8.27 million and a cap number of $9.8 million. If the Dolphins release him then his cap number would be $1.4 million. Wake didn’t have any sacks in the first few games of the season, but in the last three games he has seven sacks and nine tackles, according to the Miami Herald. Wake’s 70 career sacks rank second all-time in Dolphin history, behind Jason Taylor. Since 2009 he has the third most sacks in the NFL, behind DeMarcus Ware and Jared Allen.

Derrick Shelby will be the Dolphins left defensive end and Olivier Vernon will be the right defensive end with Wake out. Terrence Fede and Chris McCain will be their backup defensive ends.
