Rosewood, Fox’s lead-in to Empire this season, has earned a full season order. The show stars Morris Chestnut as the title character.
Fox said today that the Miami-set crime drama has earned a Back 9 order. The show, which airs on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. before Empire, has averaged a 2.2 18-49 rating and 7.3 million viewers. The audience for the first two episodes hit 9.1 million viewers with Hulu and Fox Now streams included.
Created by Todd Harthan, Chestnut plays Dr. Beaumont Rosewood Jr., a private Pathologist in Miami. He’s brilliant and oozes charisma, making things a bit difficult for the tough Detective Annalise Villa, played by Jaina Lee Ortiz (The Affair). Other members of the cast include Domenick Lombardozzi, Lorraine Toussaint, Gabrielle Dennis and Anna Konkle. Taye Diggs just landed a recurring role on the show.
“Rosewood has proven to be a real self-starter for us, which is a tremendous feat on this highly competitive night. Todd Harthan, Morris, Jaina, Lorraine and the entire cast and crew have done a fantastic job creating a gorgeous, sexy world that is the perfect complement to Empire,” David Madden, President, Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company, said in a statement. “The upcoming episodes are so compelling as we build out the family dynamics, and with today’s order, we’re excited to explore the world of Rosewood even further this season.”
Rosewood is Fox’s first new show of the season to get a full season order. The network did order additional scripts for the comedies Grandfathered and The Grinder. The network has already trimmed Minority Report to 10 episodes.
