The 22nd MTV Europe Music Awards essentially put a spotlight on the global music industry. While still considered MTV’s “other” award ceremony to the VMAs, it’s known for bringing in top-notch performances.
This year’s EMAs, held on Oct. 25 at the Mediolanum in Milan, had Ed Sheeran and Ruby Rose hosting. Rose proved to be a must-watch, with her gender-blending and changing ensembles. Sheeran, meanwhile, had a strong night performing and taking home awards.
Among the many moments, Pharrell Williams pulled off another fashion achievement – this year, with a pair of overalls rather than an oversized hat. In addition, Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar predictably took home best song for “Bad Blood.”
Still, for nominations, some selections were dated or off-kilter: Rihanna for “Best Female,” Lana Del Rey for “Best Alternative,” and Coldplay for “Best Rock.” On the other hand, Justin Bieber, with his multiple awards and memorable performance, showed he’s still on top of his game after a rough few years.
