After the disaster that was Terminator: Genisys, Paramount has put all future sequels on hold indefinitely.

The news came from The Hollywood Reporter, which noted that Paramount will ultimately lose money on Terminator: Genisys. That's actually a little surprising considering the movie did very well in China, and it ended up with a worldwide gross of$440 million. The budget was $155 million, so they must have spent a heck of a lot on marketing.

This has to be disappointing for Paramount, as Terminator: Genisys was supposed to launch a new universe of Terminator movies. Long before Genisys opened, the studioscheduled a sequel for May 19, 2017 and a third movie for June 29, 2018.

In fact, some of the actors like J.K. Simmons were even signed on for multiple movies, so Paramount was pretty confident that they'd happen. If those sequels are even still made, though, they definitely won't meet those release dates anymore.

Believe it or not, this is not the first Terminator movie that failed to launch a trilogy. In 2009, Terminator Salvation was meant to be the start of a new series, but when itdisappointed at the box office, that was called off. Sound familiar? Apparently, getting a new franchise going is no easy task with this series.
