Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett was suspended for one game on Saturday after he was arrested earlier that morning.

The arrest was for a misdemeanor offense of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence (OVI). Barrett was trying to avoid a DUI checkpoint near the Ohio State campus and failed a Breathalyzer test, according to ESPN.

His blood-alcohol content was .099, which is above the legal limit. He could have been suspended for two games under the school’s student-athlete drug and alcohol policy, but was only suspended for one game since the charge was a misdemeanor. Barrett was released to teammate Cardale Jones.

Barrett, who is a sophomore, broke his ankle in the final games of the regular season last year. Jones has been the starting quarterback for Ohio State this season. Barrett got the starting job back last week. He has thrown for 472 yards and seven touchdowns and run for 329 yards and seven more scores, according to ElevenWarriors.com, which first reported the arrest. Last year he had 45 total touchdowns, breaking the Big Ten record, and was fifth in voting for the Heisman Trophy.

Barrett will be eligible to return on November 14. Ohio State, who is 8-0 this season, has a bye week this week and plays Minnesota next week.
