For this challenge, the designers are to use three New York bridges - Queensboro Bridge, Manhattan Bridge, and Brooklyn Bridge - as inspiration. The designers must make a 3-D avant-garde look. Avant-garde is when a look can be out there, not found at a department store or wearable for the everyday. Anything goes.

The designers are getting the opportunity to create a 3-D print textile as part of their design. The winner of this challenge will get their own 3-D textile printer. The designers have two days for this challenge.

Kelly choose the Brooklyn Bridge, since she won the last challenge. Tim picked the bridges for the other designers. Candice and Merline got Queensboro Bridge. Edmond and Ashely got Manhattan Bridge.

Kelly created a dress that literally looks like a bridge. It uses a brown snake-skin textile, the hips go out for a mile, looking like the base of a bridge. The criss-cross details across the chest and sides of the top are pretty cool. She used her 3-D textile to add detail to the belt.

Candice created a red with black accents strapless gown with a dramatic fishtail bottom. She used her 3-D printing design detail on the bust and on the sides of the hips and waist.

Merline created a simple top that had all of her 3-D printing detail on it. The bottom is a knee length skirt that has several architectural points coming out of the shirt. The entire look is a dark brown chocolate color. She really went for the whole 3-D concept. The skirt looks similar to Kini’s umbrella dress from last season.

Edmond created a black dress that has unique cut-outs on the tops and flowing mess for the skirt. For his 3-D design and cut-outs on the top, he plays on the X’s that he saw on the Manhattan Bridge. He also created a mesh/fishnet band that covers the model’s eye.

Ashley created cigarette hot pants and top that is dark blue where the model needs to be covered and white mesh with dark blue poka-dots everywhere else. She made a dark blue meh floor length cape to cover any mistakes that the judges might find fault with. Her 3-D design is just placed on the cape as if it’s an after thought.
