TIM GUNN USED HIS SAVE! Repeat: this is not a drill. Tim Gunn used his save to have Edmond go to New York Fashion Week.
The designers have seven weeks to go home and create their New York Fashion Week line. The show is giving the designers $9,000 to create a ten look collection.
Half way through the design process, Tim visits the designers at their home to see their collections and meet their family and friends.
Tim checks in on Ashley at home in San Diego, California. Ashely is the first designer on Project Runway to create a plus size line. The show is even providing plus size models. Her inspiration is Mexico City in the 1950s. She has hand dyed all of the fabric, lace, and sequins from white to various shades of pink. Tim is not too sure about Ashely doing over the top flower headpieces.
Next, Tim checked in with Candice in San Francisco, California. Candice is creating a massive finale dress with a huge hoop skirt. It’s so big that it doesn’t even fit into her studio where she is working. Her collection is Asian inspired. She even made a 3-D tutu like skirt made out of a wood-like material. Tim worries that the cage with the over the top fabric, that the finale dress with look a little drag queen. He suggests toning down the collection a little bit, and not to over design.
Tim goes to Springfield, Massachusetts to check in on Kelly. She already has 10 looks completed. Her collection is based on the concept of Studio 54 meets new-age street wear. She even made designer fanny packs (Kelly has been seen throughout the season wearing fanny packs) for most of the looks.
Lastly, Tim visits Edmond in Atlanta, Georgia. Edmond is making a very luxurious looking collection with elaborate gowns. Edmond needs to execute one look per day for him to be ready to show at fashion week. Tim suggests not over designing and going over-board with the architecture look.
Flash forward to a week later when all of the designers are back in New York. The tension between the designers is high. The designers have to present three looks to the judges as a preview of their collection. Plot twist, one of the looks has to be created that day.
Kelly mini collection shows that she is not playing it safe by mixing prints and colors. Of course, she does show one of her signature fanny packs.
Ashely’s collection does a great job showcasing plus size women in fashionable clothes. Love the colors that she died the lace. The flower headpieces are a little bit over the top.
Edmond’s mini collection is all black and white. He presented a lot of elegant, statement evening gowns. The ruffles, the long sleeves, and having it be floor length, on the third look makes it look very matronly.
Candice showed the judges her versatility in the three looks from her collection. Two of the looks were all black. The first look had a red crop top, a red jacket, and white skinny jeans with a red flower print. The red adds a great pop to the collection.
The Judges Feedback:
The judges want Edmond to create cohesion in the collection besides the looks all being black and white. The judges want him to ditch the ruffles. They just want Edmond to be him, do more sexy like he’s shown on the show before instead of the classic that he’s shown in his collection.
The judges do not like that Kelly’s collection is too boring and ready-to-wear. They want her to vamp it up with more glitz and glitter.
The judges stressed to Ashely that the fit has to be perfect since she’s doing a plus size collection. They want her to pay attention to detail more, especially with the zippers. The judges are wondering where the prints are since Ashely often works in prints. Some of the judges are wary of the flower crowns.
The judges are saying that Candice’s line is a little costume-y and cliche. Her collection needs to be completely re-styled and toned down.
The designers have two days until they show at New York Fashion Week.
