The View's Raven Symone is getting some heavy backlash for discriminatory remarks she made on the show Thursday.
The former child actress stated that she would not hire a person with a unique name saying, "Can we take back 'racist' and say 'discriminatory? Because I think that's a better word. That's a better word. And I am very discriminatory against words like the ones that they were saying in those names. I'm not about to hire you if your name is Watermelondrea. It's just not gonna happen. I'm not gonna hire you."
According to The Wrap, the comment followed a discussion of a recent study that showed Americans make racist assumptions based on names.
Vox reported that the same study also found that people tend to associate "black-sounding names" with larger, more violent people than they do "white-sounding names."
Many critics were quick to point out what they felt was hypocrisy since the statement was coming from a woman who does not have the most traditional name, was sporting a bright pink mohawk and sitting next to a woman named Whoopi.
Twitter exploded after her comments went viral and many are now calling for her to be fired from the show.
