A Nightmare on Elm Street is getting a reboot from New Line, and some fans were hoping Robert Englund could potentially return. Unfortunately, the actor is now confirming he's completely done with the character.

After rumors circulated all week that Englund could reprise his role as Freddy, the actor took to Twitterto say that he will not be playing the character in any future Nightmare projects.

That's certainly sad to hear, although it doesn't mean Englund can't still be in the new movies. As we previously reported, the actor recently said that he'd cameo in the reboot if the studio wanted him, playing a dream expert or some sort of similar character. It would be pretty awesome to see Englund back in a Freddy movie at all, even if he's not actually playing the lead character.

New Line announced the new Nightmare on Elm Street reboot back in August. It's not expected to follow in the same canon as the 2010 film, starting over again with a new actor playing Freddy.

Englund recently speculated that the movie would be a remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors rather than the original, although for now that's just a rumor.
