The Sandy Hook Elementary School choir will make the trip to New Orleans to sing “America The Beautiful” at the Super Bowl Sunday, less than two months after the tragic shooting at the Newtown, CT school.
The News Times reports that the trip was made possible because of an anonymous donor. At least 26 students will be able to go thanks to the donation.
According to USA Today, the NFL later confirmed the trip, noting that they will sing during the pregame show, which will air live on CBS prior to the game Sunday. They will perform just before Alicia Keys sings the “Star-Spangled Banner.”
The NFL has paid tribute to the victims of the December tragedy at the school that left 20 children and six adults dead. During the season, teams wore a “S.H.E.S.” sticker on their helmets while several players made donations to the families themselves. The New york Giants also brought families and students on the field before their final game of the season and Victor Cruz paid a personal visit to student Jack Pinto’s family.
As The New York Times notes, the chorus recently gained attention for their performance of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow.”
