There's been rumors buzzing all over Hollywood about The Goonies 2 for the past few months. But Sean Astin, who stared in the first, doubts that the project will ever get off the ground.
Astin was the star of the original Goonies and in an interview with Yahoo Movies he said, “I’m absolutely convinced some version of it will happen eventually, because people really want it. And when people want something that bad, it’s the job of the studio to deliver.”
It was announced that Goonies 2 was in the works but no other updates have come out since then. It seems to be an idea studios want to do but are unsure of when to actually produce or release the film.
Six months ago Astin described the making of the first film as magical and the right place at the right time, according to Cinema Blend. He also feels that if the movie was rebooted or remade today it would be difficult to recapture the magic Spielberg did in the 1980s.
Goonies fans may never let go of the idea of a sequel and studios may keep pushing it back further and further. If a sequel or reboot isn’t made soon it is questionable if it will ever be made at all.
