FIFA’s embattled president Sepp Blatter’s name keeps popping up in the headlines these days for all the wrong reasons. Well now add a provisional suspension to that list.
BBC reported that FIFA’s ethics committee has recommended that Blatter be suspended for 90 days following accusations that he signed an "unfavorable" contract and made a "disloyal payment" to UEFA President Michel Platini. He is also facing a suspension
According to the Guardian, the person on the committee who made the recommendation is actually Blatter’s adviser, Klaus Stöhlker.
“The ethics committee has not taken any key decisions, they are waiting for further investigations. There is no guilt impugned,” Stöhlker said. “They put the ball to Mr. Lauber in Switzerland. He is now in position for further investigation. At least president Blatter has not flown away from his throne but is still in power. It’s a very difficult situation. It’s not good for global football.”
Blatter’s lawyers have said the committee has not notified their client of any suspension.
