For the Terminator franchise, the future is as bleak as it is in the movies themselves. However, the studio is now assuring fans that the new sequels are definitely still happening, even after the failure of Genisys.
According to The Wrap, Skydance Media Chief Creative Office Dana Goldberg said that the upcoming films aren't exactly on hold, as has been previously reported.
“I wouldn’t say on hold, so much as re-adjusting,” she said.
Goldberg did acknowledge the disappointing gross of Terminator Genisys, noting that although they were happy with the worldwide numbers, they aren't taking the domestic gross lightly. She's referring to the fact that Genisys was considered to be a huge failure domestically, but the worldwide gross was surprisingly good, with the film taking home $350 million overseas.
So what does she mean by the franchise being "re-adjusted"? Well, apparently they're going to do a lot of research into what people liked about the previous movie and what they didn't. Goldberg said the studio plans to do a worldwide study talking to audiences about what didn't work for them about Genisys so they can correct those mistakes with the next one. Luckily for Goldberg, you don't have to look very far to find people who didn't like Terminator Genisys.
