Ichabod is showing his domesticated side by doing chores around the house and preparing dinner for himself and his new roommate Abbie. We learn that he is not a good cook and I still find it hilarious that he calls Abbie’s underwear “untouchables.” Meanwhile, Pandora is planning on unleashing something else that will continue the evil supernatural invasion of Sleepy Hollow. She goes to her mystery box and does an evil spell that unleashes an evil force that targets on people’s fear. Pandora does the superman transform at the train station where she notices a very nervous and scared man calling the FBI. She tells the spirit to scare him as she enjoys watching these mortals squirm.
“Only in Sleepy Hollow does your boss get eaten by a demon,” goes the light dinner conversation between Abbie and Ichabod when they get the call about the death at the train station. The man’s name was Paul Everett and he died of a heart attack. Ichabod notices the fear on this man’s face when a blast from Abbie’s past arrives. Agent Reynolds arrives, and Ichabod can immediately tell there's some feelings between the two. Reynolds is Abbie’s new boss. Ichabod has a brief encounter with Pandora (without knowing who she is) and fears that another supernatural entity is responsible, hiding in the shadows.
Ichabod is unsuccessful in finding out about Abbie & Reynolds' relationship, but does have a plan to keep The Archives as a historical landmark. He also believes that this entity is involved with creatures of shadows and darkness. Abbie is able to filter through Everett’s FBI call and is able to make out the phrase “I will kill…” Just a normal day in Sleepy Hollow.
The shadow moves like it is alive, with whispering voices and torments its victims. Ichabod is ready to give us another history lesson on how this ties to what is happening. He has a memory from reading Grace Dixon (Abbie’s ancestor)’s journal.
Flashback to September 1776. Ms. Dixon hears a rumor of a commanding British officer using a dark ceremony in order to fish out colonial spies. Marcus Collins was the turncoat, selling out colonial spies. Ichabod was making contact with his spymaster and close compassion Betsy Ross. I like Betsy. They escape the meeting and have an encounter with the creature.
Present Day: The creature’s purpose is to root out spies who share secrets. They find out one of the names on Everett’s message…Richard Williams. Ichabod and Abbie visit the house. They have an encounter with the creature that lunges at them and we see secrets from Ichabod and Abbie’s past. Williams escapes in his car but the creature appears in his backseat, causing Williams to crash into a tree.
Jenny gets a call from Joe Corbin. He meets up with her at her place, which has been broken into. It appears somebody was looking for something. Joe feels that Jenny and her sister are not telling him the whole story. Jenny lies to him, and tells him she will tell him what is going on. We notice something or someone watching them from the woods.
Abbie goes to investigate Williams' house while Ichabod goes to The Archives. Reynolds arrives to give her a hand. He knows that Abbie has a theory about what is going on. Obviously, they discuss old feelings which we knew they had. I’m going to give it 2-3 more episodes before they get together.
Joe Corbin is abducted in a parking garage and he is being held prisoner in the woods. Jenny arrives and knows this man from her dealings with Joe’s father. This man is part of the group that Jenny used to be with that are involved with historical items? Jenny fights him then gives him the item he desires and he releases them. I hope this is doesn’t become a subplot that I don’t care about.
Ichabod and Abbie figure out that the creature wants to remove more secrets and Ichabod shares with Abbie one of his darkest secrets. He was tempted to give up all of Washington’s spies. He declined, but his temptation to succumb to evil still haunts him. Ichabod and Abbie take Ms. James, the final person with knowledge of the secret into hiding in a well lit room. The lights flicker, which means the creature is near.
Ichabod goes to investigate and comes across the creature. He continues to torment Ichabod with his secret. Abbie arrives and uses flash bangs to create distance from the creature. They uses clues from Ichabod’s memory of that day. They can defeat the creature by saying his real name. Demonic creatures weakness is hearing their true self. Seems simple enough. Ichabod keeps repeating Marcus Collins until he finally stabs Collins through the chest. Mark off another win for Team Ichabod/Abbie.
Abbie finally reveals her secret to Ichabod. She discovered that her father is still alive. She had gone to where he lived and observed him, but decides she is not sure what to do next. Abbie is also continuing this friendship and flirting with her boss/former classmate Reynolds. You just wait.
Jenny and Joe are relaxing at Jenny’s place where Joe keeps insisting to be let in on his father’s work. He wants to continue his father’s legacy, because it is all he has. I respect his decision and hope that this aspect of the show keeps me interested.
Ichabod continues on his quest to keep The Archives as a historical landmark. He notices something while at the train station. He notices the coffee shop is no longer there. Abbie and Ichabod go to the video footage and Abbie immediately recognizes the woman. She remembers her name is Pandora. Ichabod recognizes that she could be the mythical woman with the box that is sending evil their way. Evil is back in full force!
We see Pandora watering her tree and we see another flower bloom. We then see the tree suddenly grow at a rapid rate as Pandora walks away….
