Disney and Lucasfilm unveiled the Star Wars: The Force Awakens poster this Sunday afternoon. The studio also announced when the first trailer since Star Wars Celebration will finally be shown.

The poster image, which unfortunately was not drawn by Drew Strewzan, surprisingly doesn't show Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill). That probably means that he's not in the first third of the film. However, the new characters - Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), Poe (Oscar Isaac) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) - are featured prominently. Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), Chewbacca, C-3PO, R2-D2 and BB-8 can also be seen on the poster.

A new trailer for The Force Awakens will be shown during the ESPN Monday Night Football game tomorrow night. As expected, tickets will also go on sale, two months before the film hits theaters.

Disney also officially announced a Star Wars marathon event at participating theaters around the country. The marathon of all six films will begin on Dec. 17 and end just before first screenings of The Force Awakens.

There will also be exclusive giveaways at Regal, AMC, Carmike and Alamo Drafthouse locations. The AMC at Downtown Disney in Walt Disney World will also host an opening night event, which will include a special party at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

The Force Awakens officially opens on Dec. 18, although there will be early showings the night before. The film was directed by J.J. Abrams. In the meantime, you can read the Journey to The Force Awakens books to prepare.
