Hollywood has been speculating about who will direct the next Fast and Furious film. Vin Diesel had suggested that he was interested in directing, but the action star will stick to acting.

According to TheWrap, F. Gary Grey, who is fresh off directing Straight Outta Compton, is the frontrunner for the job. Grey has worked with both Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson before and has experience in the action genre with his remake of The Italian Job.

Straight Outta Compton made $200 million worldwide, so Universal Studios has a lot of faith in Grey to deliver once again with Furious 8. The news is not official, but studio executives are going to meet with producer/star Diesel and producer Neal Moritz. They will likely decide between Gray and another director, Cinema Blend reports.

No plot details have yet been released for the new movie but audiences can expect a lot of action, car chases, witty one liners, and amazing special effects. Diesel has also said recently that this will be part of a trilogy that will ultimately close out the franchise.

Fast and Furious 8 is slated for release on April 14, 2017.
