The third film in the Ring series was expected to open on Nov. 13, but with a little over a month to go, not a single trailer or poster has been released. Now, as many fans have been expecting, the film will not make its November release date.

According to Variety, Rings has been delayed until sometime in 2016. No new date has been given, although Variety notes that it will likely open in the first quarter of the year.

It's speculated the studio moved the film simply because of their crowded fall slate, including movies like Anomalisa and The Big Short.

Rings will not be a remake or reboot of the original movie, but rather a direct sequel taking place 13 years later. It was rumored for a while that the film would be a prequel telling the origin story of Samara, but thankfully director F. Javier Gutiérrez confirmed that this is not the case, notes Screenrant.

The upcoming sequel will be directed by Gutiérrez and stars Matilda Lutz, Alex Roe, and Johnny Galecki. No plot has been revealed yet, and at the moment the main question is will the film still revolve around a cursed VHS tape? Considering it's taking place in 2015, barely any of the characters would even still have a VCR lying around, so perhaps the curse will be updated and take the form of a YouTube video this time.

Rings will hit theaters in 2016.
