Iconic rapper Marshall “Eminem” Mathers turned 43 on Oct. 17, making all of us feel old in the process.
The Detroit-born hip-hop icon has dominated airplay over the past decade and half, and continues to release popular music in cementing his legacy as one of the greatest musicians of all time.
Since debuting in 1996, Eminem has sold more than 172 million albums worldwide, making him one of the world's best-selling artists of all time. As a solo artist, Eminem has eight No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200, and he is the best-selling artist of the 2000s in the U.S.
Ranked 83rd on its list of 100 Greatest Artists of All Time and dubbed the King of Hip Hop by Rolling Stone, Slim Shady played a pivotal role in U.S. pop culture in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Eminem made regular appearances on music channel MTV and also starred in the 2002 hip-hop film 8 Mile, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Original Song for "Lose Yourself," becoming the first rap artist to win the award.
