The Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts & Sciences nominates five original musical scores every year to compete for the Oscar. This year the nominees were: Howard Shore for Hugo, Ludovic Bource for The Artist, Alberto Iglesias for , and John Williams for both War Horse and The Adventures of Tintin. While 2011 was a fine year for film scores, and the majority of these scores are great, there were so many other scores that deserved to be recognized. Some phenomenal works of music were sadly unrecognized by the Academy this year despite their critical and listener acclaim.
