Ten years after the initial list of the top 100 Greatest movies ever made was created The American Film institute decided to commemorate its anniversary with a new updated list. AFI is going to retool their list every ten years to incorporate new movies as well as to monitor cultural attitudes and people's general feelings about movies. Citizen Kane came out on top once again by ranking number one on the list. Four new movies were added, Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (No. 50), Saving Private Ryan (No. 71), Titanic (No. 83) and The Sixth Sense (No. 89). The list was complied by sending ballots to 1,500 filmmakers, actors, writers, critics and other influential Hollywood heavyweights. The ballot consisted of 400 films, 43 of them released within the last ten years. Other films that made it onto the ballot, but not the list, include, Spider-Man 2, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Shrek and Chicago. The full list can be seen on the AFI website.
