Between Netflix, Hulu, Amazon and others, there is already a wealth of original content available online only. But now YouTube is getting into the game with a new monthly subscription service.
The Google-owned company announced YouTube Red, which will cost $9.99 a month and will be available on Oct. 28. Subscriptions will also cover YouTube’s Gaming app and the YouTube Music app.
The key feature of YouTube Red is access to videos across multiple devices without any advertising. However, in 2016, the service will start to include original shows and movies from popular YouTube creators.
Some of the already announced original programming includes:
- Scare PewDiePie: A series starring PewDiePie as he goes through scary situations in his favorite video games; produced by Robert Kirkman’s Skybound Entertainment and Maker Studios
- Sing It!: A scripted series from the Fine Brothers and Mandeville Films
- Lazer Team: A feature-length comedy from Rooster Teeth and Fullscreen Films, centers on a group of losers who find an alien ship and have to save earth
- A Trip To Unicorn Island: Another movie, this one coming from Astronauts Wanted and tells the story of Lilly Singh’s global tour to show that happiness is worth fighting for
- Untitled Joey Graceffa Project: A reality adventure series starring Joey Graceffa and a group of YouTubers who try to solve a mystery
- 360 Project From MatPat of Game Theory: MatPat of The Game Theorists takes audiences on a journey to explain the science behind popular video games
- Single by 30: A romantic drama from Wong Fu Productions and New Form Digital about two high school friends (Harry Shum Jr. and Kina Grannis) who promised to get married if they don’t get married to anyone else by the time they are 30. Now they are 30, so what do they plan to do?
- Untitled CollegeHumor Project: The CollegeHumor team is developing an anthology comedy series
- Fight of the Living Dead: Aline Labs traps YouTubers in a realistic apocalypse and they have to try to survive.
- I Am Tobuscus: A scripted comedy from Toby Turner about a YouTuber hoping to become even more popular.
