This coming spring, YouTube will start asking for paid subscriptions on select channels.
In order to keep up to par with the traditional tube, YouTube has asked select producers to submit applications for paid broadcasting. According to Mail Online, the first channels can be available as early as Easter and will charge anywhere from $1 to $5 a month.
Currently on YouTube, all content is free. However, in addition to a newly added paid broadcasting, YouTube is considering charging for content libraries and access to live events, as well as self help and financial advice shows, stated the AdAge.com.
This idea has been in the works for some time now. YouTube wishes to convenience viewers by having select TV content available for viewing at a more direct channel. The whole idea is to bring forth this content at a much lower cost than even viewing it on TV would be.
YouTube will start their experimentation with only 25 channels.
