The NFL is investigating the Indianapolis Colts’ injury reporting after it was revealed that quarterback Andrew Luck might have been playing with fractured ribs after suffering injuries in week three.
News of Luck’s fractured ribs surfaced during Fox Sports’ Sunday pre-game show from NFL insider Jay Glazer. Luck also suffered a separated shoulder during week three and didn’t play for two games.
Despite the injuries, Luck was listed as questionable for each game between weeks four and six. According to the Indianapolis Star, the Colts didn’t even list Luck on the injury report for the past two weeks. League spokesman Brian McCarthy told the paper that the league will investigate possible injury report violations by the Colts.
As for the Colts, the team has insisted that it has done nothing wrong. “Our injury reports are accurate. If people have any questions about player injuries, they should refer to our injury reports,” Colts GM Ryan Grigson said in a statement released by the team.
As the Star points out, the NFL has fined teams for not reporting injuries correctly in the past. In 2012, Washington Redskins, Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens were each fined $20,000 for violations.
Even with Luck back on the field, the Colts have continued to struggle. The team has a record of 3-4 (with two of those wins coming in games Luck didn’t play in), but still lead the awful AFC South. They play the undefeated Carolina Panthers tonight on ESPN’s Monday Night Football.
