Transgender Day of Remembrance is Nov. 20 and on this day, Caitlyn Jenner, who is extremely visible in the community, joined activist Chandi Moore to share a powerful video message.
Splash News noted that the day, which began is 1999 and was founded by Gwendolyn Ann Smith, calls for an end to violence against transgender people and is also a day to remember Rita Hester. She was an African American transgender woman found stabbed to death in her home in Massachusetts. She suffered 20 stab wounds. The person responsible for the slaying has never been caught.
“This year at least 21 transgender women have been murdered in the United States,” Moore states in the video.
“No one should be killed simply because they are transgender,” Jenner said.
Moore asks that we all take a moment to remember all those who have lost their lives because of who they are.
"Hire a trans person in your company, support a trans student in your school, love your trans child. Let's all take action to put an end to hate and violence," the I Am Cait star added.
