Catcher Chris Iannetta signed with the Seattle Mariners on Monday.

According to MLB.com, the deal is for one year and $4.25 million with incentives.

The deal also has a team option for 2017. There is also a vesting option which would guarantee Iannetta a second year if he starts a certain number of games. The Mariners will be the third team for Iannetta, who started his career with the Colorado Rockies.

"I think it was an opportunity to get back and in a situation to play and prove that this past year was just a down year," Iannetta said.

Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto said, "Chris has a very distinct skill set and really brings an added dimension. Not only stability behind the plate, where he's worked very hard to improve, but he's also a veteran with an idea when he gets into the box. He does a lot to help your lineup get longer."

Iannetta spent the last four seasons with the Los Angeles Angels. In 2014 he hit .252 in 108 games. He struggled this year however, hitting .188 with ten homeruns and 34 RBIs, according to the Associated Press. Iannetta has career averages of .231/.351/.405 in 10 seasons with the Rockies and Angels.

The Mariners designated catcher John Hicks for assignment to make room on the roster for Iannetta.
