Chris Hemsworth is the latest buff actor to shed a substantial amount of weight for a movie role.

The actor took to Instagram to share the transformation he's undergone for his upcoming film, In the Heart of The Sea.

"Just tried a new diet/training program called 'Lost at Sea.' Wouldn't recommend it.. #IntheHeartoftheSea," the actor lightheartedly wrote.

The Australian, who starred in Thor and is known for his superhero-esque physic, is almost unrecognizable under a shaggy beard and a dirty face.

Earlier this year, Hemsworth told Entertainment Tonight he would have to cut his calories severely to achieve the thin physique required for the role.

"We have to shoot the really skinny stuff where we drop down to 5,6,700 calories a day, a good three or four weeks and it's going to be pretty uncomfortable, but we'll be together in our misery," he said.

As we previously reported, In The Heart of the Sea tells the story of how Owen Chase, played by Hemsworth and his ship crew survived a trip gone awry at sea.

The film will hit theaters on Dec. 11.
