After an unexpected night off from The Daily Show, Trevor Noah returned with a new experience to joke about. His emergency appendectomy was his first experience with the American health care system.

Noah missed the Wednesday episode, his first time missing an episode since his run on The Daily Show started in late September.

After explaining that his appendix is out and that he’s doing well, Noah joked about how he had to wait in the emergency room, even though he was dying.

“I’m there and I’m filling out my form, and the lady’s like, ‘Can you fill out the form?’ I’m like, ‘What? No, I’m dying.’ She’s like, ‘Yeah, but I need you to fill out the form first.’ But I’m dying! She’s like ‘Well, I need information.’ What more information do you need other than the fact that I’m dying!”

Noah said that even after he was taken in, a nurse followed him to fill out more forms. When he was asked how he is going to pay for the surgery, he told her, “Well, with my life clearly because you’re not helping me!”

Then, the nurse asked if he had health insurance and Noah said that he wasn’t sure. The nurse said, “You know what, I’ve seen the billboards. You’re fine. You can pay for this.”
