Last night’s Dancing With The Stars was the most intense yet when viewers discovered that contestant Tamar Braxton had been rushed to the hospital and the one married couple on the show, Alexa and Carlos PenaVega, were both up for elimination.
When the show began, host Tom Bergeren let viewers know that Braxton, who is partnered up with Val Chmerkovskiy, was taken to the hospital and would potentially be unable to make it back for her dance. We later found out she had pneumonia and was taken to the hospital after dress rehearsals.
Since she wasn’t at the ballroom, the judges had to score her dress rehearsal footage, which clearly showed how sick the singer was as she did her best to dance, earning a 22 out of 30. In true determination, Braxton arrived just in time to perform the duet dance with Nick Carter and partner Sharna Burgess.
Carter told Us Weekly that Val spoke to him just before the dance and told him to take care of his partner. He reportedly told Nick, “’I need you to be a lead man tonight and I need you to protect her and take care of her.’”
After the performance, they all sat down with Braxton, who held onto Carter as he wrapped an arm around her shoulder. The dance earned them a 27 out of 30 and they were saved from elimination.
The dance couple that ended up going home were Alexa PenaVega and Mark Ballas. An emotional Carlos hugged his wife and could be heard admitting he wanted to be the one going home. This leaves Nick Carter, Tamar Braxton, Carlos PenaVega, Alek Skarlatos, and Bindi Irwin as the remaining stars heading into week 10.
