Denver Nuggets forward Wilson Chandler will be out for the rest of the season, since he has to have surgery on his right hip.
According to the Associated Press, Chandler suffered a labral tear in his right hip during the preseason. After the surgery he will go through a six month rehab process. He is expected to make a full recovery.
"I'm incredibly disappointed," Chandler said. "I put in so much work over the summer to make myself a better player. I dedicated my whole summer to self-improvement and all I had on my mind this offseason and preseason was 'This was my year.' I was going to help this team win. So this is very frustrating and heartbreaking to say the least. I just want to say thank you to the whole organization for supporting me at a time like this."
Chandler, who was drafted by the New York Knicks in 2007, signed a four-year, $46 million contract extension with the Nuggets this summer. He has not played at all this season due to the injury.
Since going to the Nuggets, Chandler has missed 48 games because of an injury. He has averaged 13.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in five seasons with the Nuggets, according to NBA.com. Chandler has averaged 13.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in his eight year career.
The Nuggets are currently 3-4.
